Along with design, makeup is one of my passions. Art and design is integrated not only in fashion, but also in makeup. When it was announced last winter that Sephora and Pantone was going to collaborate, I was beyond excited. Makeup+Design= <3. They are two of my most favorite passions.
Launched Spring 2012, Sephora+Pantone is a beauty collection that revolves around The Color of the Year, “Tangerine Tango” #17-1463. Not only does the Sephora collection contain brushes, eyelash curlers, lip gloss, eyeshadow, lashes, etc. there is an archive of other brand products that are inspired by Tangerine Tango.
Part of my birthday last month, Sephora sent me a Beauty Insider exclusive offer to pick up a Birthday Fresh Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Duo. The box contained generous samples of Fresh’s lip balms (which are amazing). The lip balm was a perfect excuse to head over to check out the new Sephora+Pantone collection.
When I entered the Ala Moana Sephora, I was pleasantly greeted with a display of the Sephora+Pantone Universe collection. I immediately swatched the $26 Blush Duo, but I was somewhat disappointed.

The color on the left is Coral, Pantone #15-1439 with gold shimmer. It reminisces of NARS Orgasm blush, but does not contain nearly as much pigmentation. I walked over to swatch Orgasm and it is definitely more vibrant than Sephora+Pantone’s Coral. If the NARS was too heavy, but you still want peachy effect, this could work for you.
The right side of the blush duo, Desert Flower, Pantone #15-1435 is a light orange matte. Again, it is not very pigmented, but delivers a sheer wash of color. Although keep in mind I am NC40!
These blushes are nice to have to collect, but I wouldn’t reach for them often.

Blush is a subtle way to display colors. It’s not a product that someone would immediately notice and ask about. Nail polish on the other hand
, is a beauty product that stands out, that I am asked about all the time. So even though the Blush Duo from the Sephora+Pantone collection was a disappointment, the Nail Enamel Set ($24) is a must have.
The Nail Enamel Set contains:
- Tangerine Tango Cream, Pantone #17-1463
- Tangerine Tango Shimmer, Pantone #17-1463
- Tangerine Tango Glitter, Pantone #17-1463
- Tangerine Tango Matte, Pantone #17-1463
The color of the year in 4 different finishes. Cream, shimmer, glitter, and matte. :O
As a nail polish enthusiast, that just blows me away. Kudos to the Sephora and Pantone’s collaboration teams. They know the nail polish market.
Sephora has taken great lengths into rebranding itself into more than just high end makeup. Their beta website has recently become the main website, increasing white space. The user is no longer restricted by the black horizontal menu.
My only criticism is to do either remove or make subtle the Sephora “flame” logo that is on the left side above the fold and the right side below the fold of the home page. When I remove it, the home page looks a lot better. The Sephora+Pantone page doesn’t contain the flame logo and it looks perfectly fine.
